Large independence day celebrations we're used to, complete with firework displays, are on hold this year in our area -- due to coronavirus.

And that means many people might be tempted to create smaller firework shows of their own.

Kezi 9 news reporter jacob roberts joins us live from a fireworks stand in eugene -- and jacob -- they told you they've seen record sales this year??

The employee i spoke with who runs this stand has been selling fireworks here for 21 years now.

But she told me this has been a banner year, unlike anything she's ever seen before.

This stand on chad drive and a handful of others in our area are operated by crossfire ministries, which has a church in eugene and in springfield.

It's their biggest fundraiser, and the manager tells me this year, sales have been off the charts.

Industry analysts have reported the u- s normally has about 16-thousand large fireworks displays on the fourth, but 90 percent of those aren't happening.

Now americans appear to be rushing to local fireworks stands to put on a show of their own.

It's been out of this world.

It's been crazy.

Yesterday i had the biggest third i've ever had and i have stuff that i'm sold out of that i've never ever sold out of on the third of july we have some tips on how to*safely handle these potentially dangerous items. first -- find out what's legal in*your area to use.

In eugene -- that includes fountains, spinners and wheels sold at retail fireworks outlets.

Never allow children to ignite, or handle these items. have a bucket of water or a hose nearby.

Light fireworks one at a time, then back away quickly.

Never try to light or re-light malfunctioning fireworks never point them at people.

And douse fireworks in water before disposing of them.

And if you need fireworks, there is still time.

Many stands are still open and this one here on chad drive will be open through the weekend.
