In the next half hour, an event geared toward bringing the community together is set to begin.

Waay 31's ashley carter spoke with the organizer of the "day of repentance" who hopes tonight can help ease tensions between the community and local officials.

Curtis henderson, event organizer: "there's a lot of things going on as far as the coronavirus and a lot of things going on in our community as far as social justice and racism."

Curtis henderson is a pastor at a local church and organized tonight's day of repentance in big spring park.

He believes bringing the community, mayor tommy battle and police chief mark mcmurray together is what's needed to move forward as a city.
