School administrators suspended extracurricular activities at aberdeen high school because someone exposed a student athlete to coronavirus.
Aberdeen school district superintendent jeff clay told me when the students can go back to practice.
"at one time when we made the decision we thought it was a student, but we have since got conformation that it was the parent that had a confirmed case of covid 19."
The football team and basketball teams have been the only extra curricular activities on campus.
Superintendent jeff clay did not confirm which team the student athlete was on.
"the student was on campus friday and he called the coach yesterday and stayed home."
Clay says he hopes that athletes can return in two weeks for practice but that is not for certain.
School district administrators are working to clean and sanitize all areas that could have been exposed.
"to make sure we can get everything cleaned and sanitized and make sure that when we come back everything is good to go."
The locker rooms have been closed.
The teams have only been in the gym and weight rooms during their work outs.
Athletes are working on social distancing at practices as well.
"doing out best to social distance, every student athlete has their water bottle, their own towel."
Aslive tag jeff clay says he talked to the football staff tuesday morning to ask if they have gotten anymore information from the mississippi high school activities association on guidance for the fall..
