Activist calls on President Ramaphosa to end Gender Based Violence

Community Activist Judith Kennedy has called on South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa to end gender based violence.

Kennedy was part of a protest outside the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court where a man was appearing on charges of allegedly raping a 13 year old girl child.

The man is known as a former MK (Umkhonto we Sizwe) combatant.

MK was the military arm of the African National Congress, during the struggle against the apartheid regime.

MK was disbanded in 1994 and integrated into the South African National Defence Force.

The man is also a subcouncil manager in the City of Cape Town and is involved with a community based organisation known as Unchain the Plain.

The identity if the man is known but cannot be published until he pleads to the charges.
