Plane skids off runway in Vietnam amid wind and heavy rain

Footage shows a stricken plane after it skidded off the runway during heavy rain in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Sunday (June 14).

The aircraft operated by VietJet was flying from the tourism island of Phu Quoc to Tan Son Nhat Airport when it encountered heavy rain and a tailwind upon landing.

Passengers screamed as the plane lost control and ploughed into the grass and thick mud alongside the runway.

The crew and travellers were all safely evacuated without any injuries and taken to the airport terminal.

Vietnamese aviation authorities have now grounded the two foreign pilots who were flying the Airbus A321neo aircraft.

"The aeroplane, passengers and crew are all safe," lowcost carrier VietJet said in the statement.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam have also seized the licences of the two pilots, pending the investigation into the incident, according to local media.
