RESTRICTIONS: Broadcast: NO USE JAPAN, NO USE TAIWAN Digital: NO USE JAPAN, NO USE TAIWAN American police officers have been using a variety of crowd control weapons against Black Lives Matter demonstrators.
These weapons can cause serious injuries and, in some instances, even death.
Chemical irritants used as crowd control weapons such as pepper spray and tear gas contain a chemical commonly known as CS gas, which can cause a burning sensation and inflammation in the eyes, mouth, throat and lungs, Reuters reports.
Flashbangs, also known as stun grenades, are considered disorientation devices.
The sound and bright light flashbangs emit when they explode stun those standing around their explosion.
However, Reuters reports that they can severely burn bystanders if fired at close range.
The flash and sound emitted by flashbangs can cause temporary loss of hearing and sight as well as loss of balance.
Sting-ball grenades contain pellets that deploy once the grenade explodes.
Some also contain chemical compounds, and others also emit bright lights and sounds upon explosion.
