Madison County commissioners will hold a meeting on whether or not to remove a confederate monument outside of the courthouse.

Pat simon.

And i'm marie waxel.

We want to get to our top story this morning.

Take a look at this.

Madison county district six commissioner jes-henry malone plans to introduce a resolution later this morning, to remove the confederate monument that sits outside of the madison county courthouse.

The topic is highlighted on the commission agenda.

This morning..

We expect to hear from madison county leaders about the discussion of removing that monument.

Waay 31's rodneya ross joins us live this morning outside of the madison county courthouse.

Rodneya-- what can we expect ahead of the meeting this morning?

To remove the statue or to keep the statue -- that's the big question that will be discussed at today's commission meeting.

We talked to one of the madison county commissioners who told us he'd like to see it go.

District six commissioner jeshenry malone posted on social media that he will introduce a resolution at the meeting to remove the confederate monument from the courthouse.

While malone says he will fight to have it removed -- district one commissioner rogers jones says he's open to seeing the monument relocated.

And today's meeting will begin a discussion to determine the future of the statue.

We talked to people at the courthouse...some told us they want the monument gone while others say it's a part of history and should stay.

Tiffany blackmon - supports removal of statue "i want to see it out of the courthouse, i understand about preserving history, we all have our histories that we may be proud of and those we are not.

So i'm not necessarily about destroying history, because i am a historian and i believe in history" butt to christopher horn - does not want statue removed "history is the best indicator of our future, we don't run from our past, we make it better.

We don't subtract, we add upon it and by doing this we actually make our community more aware of what our past was, so we don't repeat the sins of the past in the future" removing the monument may not be that simple.

A 20-17 state law says local governments can be fined 25- thousand-dollars if a monument is removed.

That commission meeting will be at 10 this morning right here at the courthouse.

I will be at the meeting to bring you all of the details.
