C1 3 lexington mayor linda gorton is reminding voters to request an absentee ballot, before it's too late.

The last day to request one is..

Next monday, june 15... and after you get it, you should fill it out, and mail it.

Absentee ballots are currently being counted..

At the city's westside facility.

So far at least 10- thousand ballots have been counted.

You can watch the process live on youtube from the city's election website.

Mayor gorton spoke from the facitly earlier today about that..

And...about voting absentee during the pandemic.

"these folks they want to count your ballot, of course they can only do that if you send it in."

-butted-- "it's clear that covid 19 is still threatening our citizens.

And we don't want people to feel threatened as they vote.

And so even in a pandemic, it is still very important to make your voice heard, and to make your vote, so just do it.

C1 3 you can apply for a ballot.... at... go- vote-k-y-dot-com.

And..

If you can't mail it in, after you get it... you can drop it off at at kroger field by june 23...the day of the primary election.

Kroger field will also be the only in- person voting location, on election day in fayette county.

Election results will be finalized and made public on june 30.

Fayette county clerk don blevins junior was with mayor gorton today.

He says it's important..

Voters properly fill out their ballots and sign both envelops when sending them in.

If they aren't properly signed, they won't be counted.

Blevins took time to demonstrate the process.

Blevins so you place your ballet in here once you fill out your ballet be sure to lick the seal, seal it.

You're going to sign right here then you're going to put it in the outer envelope and seal the outer envelope and be sure to sign on the outer envelope.

Those are the key steps according to blevins... according to blevins... election officials are receiving several dozen ballots a day that aren't properly signed.

Most of the mistakes are made by not signing the outside return ballot.

Also, check to see whether your ballot requires postage...some of those first sent out do...while those being sent out now...don't.
