Governor gavin newsom made an annoucement that police training will no longer include the use of chokeholds-- that could restrict blood flow to the head.

On friday-- the sacramento and davis police departments also announced a ban against the use of those holds.

What are police saying about this possible change in their training?

I spoke with redding police chief bill schueller about newsom wanting police to get rid of the carotid control hold.

Schueller tells me he thinks this will put the lives of both people and officers at risk.

As well as have similar techniques removed from police training programs and materials.

People tell me they think its more about the training for police.

I think it should be in training, because sometimes people are out of control and there should be more training// they need to learn that you don't hold somebody down for 8 minutes or 6 minutes.

Chief schueller did say chokeholds are banned in the department.

But schueller says the carotid control hold is only used in rar* situations.

And only if a person is being violent.
