School election mail-in ballot deadline extended

Sandra Sherwood, superintendent of Herkimer BOCES, says the voting extension for school budget votes limits the options for districts if they're budgets are voted down.

Governor has extended the deadline to vote for school budgets and school board.

School districts will accept ballots by mail...through june 16th.

But if you want to hand deliver your ballot..... you have to do that by 5 pm tomorrow.

The extension allows for increased participation, but it also poses some concerns.

4:34;16 4:56;24 "in this case, with the budget vote, you can't even open your ballots until june 16th, there really isn't time in this fiscal year, which ends june 30th, for school districts to go out with a second vote, so school boards are going to have that challenge with what to do next if in fact their budgets are voted down."

The governor also extended the deadline for absentee ballots for the primary to be received.

They have to be post marked by june 23rd, the day of the election.
