As protests and riots continue throughout the country, reports show an increase in stolen firearms. News 10 reached out to Steve Ellis, the owner of Top Guns in Terre Haute.

Across the nation... reports show more than 1-thousand guns were stolen.

That's after recent "riots".

News 10's jordan kudisch spoke with "top guns" in terre haute.

She joins us "live".... in our newsroom... to share what they're doing... to take precautions.

Despite the fact that no guns have been stolen so far.

Steve ellis..

The owner says..

It's his duty as a business owner.

To take precautions.

The shop is seeing an increase in sales..

It's up by 300-percent.

But no one has stolen anything..

Or broken in.

Ellis says the shop is secured with metal doors..

Concrete casing for the guns..

A special response team... and survellience.

Ellis says as both a gun shop owner..

And local business owner..

He's thankfulthe protests have been peaceful.

"not just as a gun shop owner, but as a business owner in the community we are all grateful for the peaceful protests that are taking place so that we're not experiencing in vigo county, what we have seen in some of these larger cities."

Ellis says he's going to continue taking these precautions with hopes that as the riots continue..

Firearms only end up in the hands of those who are trained to use them.
