Why they're speaking up "now".

//////// sister barbara battista says enough is enough.

The sisters of providence have a long history standing up to what they see as injustices.

They often march against the death penalty, immigration issues and inequalities across the globe.

Now..they're speaking out against police brutality and racism.

Battista told news 10...the united states has ignored the cries of pain for too long.

She was at the protest in terre haute on saturday.

Battista says the protest and rioting are a direct result of the oppression and treatment felt over hundreds of years.

That's why she wanted to speak out today and take a stand for her beliefs.

"black communities have been choking on the smoke from the flames that have been getting closer and closer to them for years now.

We the rest of us need to wake up to the fact that violence has been a part of the lives of some so many people of this country for so long" ///////// sister battista says change "can" happen.
