New statistics show one of the groups that coronavirus has hit the hardest in the job market is teenagers.

Still reporting one of the highest infection rates in the state.

New details show one of the hardest hit groups is teens.

Statistics from the bureau of labor show one out of every three teens who want a job won't have one.

It's the highest unemployment rate for that age group since the late 1940s.

Weigh 31's casey is live with how north alabama teenagers are dealing with the challenge of finding a summer job.

>> reporter: one teenager here in huntsville tells me she applied to several retail stores and restaurants like the ones bound me but she also says several are not hiring making it difficult for her to make any money this summer.

>> we're not qualified like a lot of other people are for a lot of jobs, so it's already a struggle doing that.

>> reporter: alley gentry is a, jr. at hazel green high school.

She started looking for a summer job two weeks ago.

>> issue been hard enough -- it's been hard enough trying to find applications from people who are not having actual businesses open now.

>> reporter: gentry says she reached out to at least five retail stores like belk.

She says they're all either closed or not hiring.

>> a lot of places are afraid to hire, i think, because of the coronavirus and so it's scary taking on people that they are not used to having in the workplace.

>> reporter: gentry said because she is a high school student without much experience, looking for a job is even more intimidating.

>> i can't go to everyone to get applications.

I can't have interviews face to face like most people would getting a job.

>> reporter: gyppedry says no -- gentry says no matter how hard it is, she is determined to get a job.

>> hopefully when i go to college i'd have a little bit of savings.

>> reporter: students are still applying for jobs.
