Workers who have been asked to return to their jobs may see their unemployment benefits come to an end, while some who choose not to return may be able to continue receiving benefits.

Though unemployment is still on the rise-- many hope reopening counties means getting back to work.

Others fear coming back into the workplace will put them at risk... kezi 9 news reporter chris lueneburg is live outside worksource lane with what the unemployment options are for those who*choose to stay home.

Matt, renee-- workers across our area tell me that unemployment has been a lifeline through this time.

But as they get call from their bosses to come back-- many of those who are fearful of the risks will have their benefits dry up.

But for some-- the money can keep rolling in... even if they decide not to return to work.

Here are the eligibility guidelines-- if a person was potentially exposed to-- is ill with, or is taking care of someone who is ill with coronavirus.

If a person is taking care of a child-- is at high risk according to a healthcare provider-- or their workplace isn't meeting industry reopening guidelines.

Althea rowell got let go from her job-- and says unemployment is what makes it possible for her to be safe.

"even though i enjoy staying home, and i feel safer and i'm keeping other people safe, i kind of have to return to work at some point.

I have to go back, and if that's when my unemployment runs out like it is for most people, then that's whenever they tell me to.

And i don't have a say when that is."

Other people have reached out to us about this issue... pregnant women-- people with health issues-- personal care workers and others worry about being exposed if they return to work of course..

This is all assuming you were able to get unemployment in the first place.

The state says it has turned the corner on processing claims... but some people are still struggling to get into the system.
