Gyms Adjusting To Social Distancing Guidelines

WAAY 31's Ashley Carter joined live after she witnessed firsthand the new changes.

Ashley, what did you see?

>> ashley carter: najahe, i'm told right now is the busiest time of day for gyms and you can see why now as you look here.

Even the amount of people are in here, you can see nobody is working out right next to each other.

And they have team members walking and regularly to make sure everyone is following the social distancing rules and they're also cleaning those machines regularly.

Gym owners told me that these are pretty big changes but safety is a top priority, so it's worth it.

>> we are very fortunate to be back open.

We're happy to be back open.

>> wayne's 24 e health club reopened monday and was met with a high turnout from excited members.

He's making sure all five location follow all the recommendations on sanitation and social distancing practices from the small business administration.

>> we have disinfectant.

>> alfred told me the loss of revenue while being shut down was just one of the reasons he chose to open up sphoons oh could.

>> all during that time we did not draft our members so we basically had zero income for seven weeks.

>> but some madison county gym owners didn't rush to reopen.

>> all of our original plans were to open up on 18th of next monday, so we felt like instead of trying to scramble to just execute our plan, which was going to be done later this week.

>> blair morris, the owner of iron tribe fitness, told me that plan included sanitizing the entire gym, cleaning all equipment and taping these squares on the mat so everyone can workout in their own space while staying six feet apart.

Iron tribe will reopen wednesday.

And taking the extra day to make sure their gym is fully prepared was worth it.

Even though they'ring looking forward to having everyone back.

>> we're so excited.

My team, they can't wait to get back and have interaction with their clients.

Face-to-face rather than behind a videoconference or zoom.

>> while i've seen the staff here cleaning the machines regularly, i've also seen members utilizing the sanitation machines and sanitizing because they say they want to make sure that these gyms remain open and that everybody remains healthy.
