After the Archdiocese of Portland said churches may resume mass - with restrictions it was up to the individual parish to decide whether to begin or not.

But some of the catholic faithful are eager to return to mass.

Catholic parishes all over oregon got their first chance to meet in person today since the 'stay home save lives' order.

As kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome shows us - it's not business as usual, but it's a major step in that direction.

The archdiocese of portland includes 124 parishes and 23 missions that serve over 467,000 catholics.

Archbishop alexander sample - led the first mass since they closed their doors sunday at the cathedral in portland - saying he was already looking forward to next weekend "i hope next weekend i will be able to look out at your faces becuase the church will be ready to open under the new guidelines."

And they aren't alone st alice's in eugene held their first mass since the shutdown limiting their flock to 25 people.

Thise who wanted to come had to sign up online or a preferred slot and then once they were confirmed - were allowed to come.

But once 25 people showed up - the doors were locked according to governor brown's order - once a county is approved for phase onw of reopening - social gatherings of up to 25 people may resume and while up to 25 people may meet - state and federal guidelines suggest limiting that number to 1o those at high risk or who are concerned about their health are encouraged to continue streaming online.
