Uncertain fate for NYS Fair

New York State Fair officials are keeping health and safety in mind while awaiting the state's determination on whether the event can go on this year.

Believe the new york state fair could go on unless the entire state and surrounding areas are opened.

The new york state fair director released a video statement to give his take on the current matter.

The fair is currently slated to run from august 21st to september 7th.

This would mark the first 18-day run in the fair's history.

Last year, the event attracted nearly 1.3 million fairgoers over 13 days.

That was an all-time record for attendance.

(troy wafner, new york state fair director) "we agree with the governor that the safety of the public comes first.

We're continuing to make preparations with the health and safety of the fairgoer in mind, and in coordination with new york state's regional efforts to combat the coronavirus.

We know that many people want to carry on the tradition of the fair, as do we, but we cannot put a price on the health and safety of those who attend."

Wafner went on to say that in this unsettling time... there are many questions that don't have answers yet.

But he will share those answers with the public once they have them.
