Tonight -- spirits are a little higher in south whitley...after a parade was held in the town.a 'social distance parade' to keep spirits high... during this pandemic.fox 55's chris mullooly is live in south whitley.chris... how did this idea come up??

Town council president randall cokl says everyones been bunched up in their home worrying about the pandemic or personal issues... and this was a way to help put their minds off it for a little bit..

You could hear the honking and sirens?nats?all around south whitley"get together still social distance and have some fun "council president randall cokl says it started as an idea a week ago...they sent a post out on facebook... seeing if anyone would be interested.woke up this morning and said its gonna be a flop or successthe parade was supposed to start at 6:30... and about 50 cars were already lined up by 6.

Getting everyone together decorating vehicles make some noise and have a good timecokl says its a way to keep everyones minds off the pandemic..

Even if its just for a little.we wanted to do something for the kids and families shut in for a while so we had a social distancing paradeso they took off.?nats?

Zig zagging around town... as families pulled up to watch..

.or had front row seats on their front porch.i got kind of lax i thought its gonna go away....a great excuse for lynn myers holding up the american flag here says it helps a lot of the families with young children who have been cooped up.its great they haven't been out they're doing hw through a computer screen and they're ready to get out myers hopes there is another parade soon... one that is safe and maybe bigger than the one before.lifts everything tomorrow doesn't mea nits gone we really need to practice social distancing this may not be the last parade held in the town either..
