Schermerhorn Happy to be Home After Scary Battle with COVID-19

Well after a long and grueling battle with covid-19, west noble high school athletic director tom schermerhorn was finally able to return home this weekend..

And as he continues his recovery, his community continues to rally behind him..

Petar hood has that story..

Narr: tom schermerhorn is finally back where he belongs..

Tom schermerhorn: "i mean, it was a pretty emotional day, just to get to come home, and not knowing when that day was going to come."narr: for schermerhorn and his family, that uncertianty was real.

Just over three weeks ago, the west noble high school athletic director was on a ventilator, fighting for his life in a battle against coronavirus..deedee schermerhorn: "every day when i was done talking to the doctor, he said, 'your husband is very, very sick.

He's stable right now, but he's very, very sick.'

So that was obviously very tough, and the realization like, we were unsure if he was going to make it home or not."narr: but he did, thanks in large part to a dedicated team of doctors and nurses at parkview hospital in fort wayne..tom schermerhorn: "i don't know that i'll ever get a chance to thank the people who helped me.

Quite honestly i don't know that i would even recognize a lot of them, because i was not in a great place.

But i can tell each one of them that helped me that they made a huge difference."narr: so too did the support tom and his family received from the west noble community..

And that support system showed up in full force when the schermerhorns brought their beloved husband and father home on saturday..

Deedee schermerhorn: "the feelings i can't even come up with.

It was just so thrilling and just to see the outpouring of love was just amazing."tom schermerhorn: "honestly i've been humbled so much by the whole experience.

Thankful is unquestionably the one thing that comes to my mind."narr: and awesome is the one thing that comes to mine.
