Are local grocers seeing any change in the food supply chain?

Action News Now spent time at one store to find out.

Plants -open.

New this morning... and closer to home... are local grocers seeing any change in the food supply chain??

Action news now reporter jafet serrato spent time at one store... jafet... are they able to keep shelves stocked??

Workers here at s and s produce in chico tell me when the stay at home order started - there was a great deal of demand and not enough supply.

Now - product is rolling in and they are restocking shelves quickly.

S & s manager ryan spangler puts on his mask and ties his apron - so he can safely stock the shelves.

"our suppliers have been really great to us."

S&s gets its fresh produce from local farms. "then you have buyers go to the farms, load up the semis, take them back to a distribution center" from there - spangler places an order for delivery.

(nats: barcode scanning) but since the stay at home order went into effect.

"the supply and the demand went up."

To keep up - he's now buying directly from the farmers.

"it's been a scramble because we are lucky in this area with ag and rice" (standup:) here at s&s produce managers tell me even some of the most basic staple items like celery, garlic and even potatoes are moving quickly.

Staff is working hard to restock them as soon as they sell out.

"we've been pretty fortunate that on the following delivery it shows up."

Something shopper charlie dunn appreciates.

"i like s&s.

I like their food, their produce is fresh.

Their meat is good."

And if you're wondering if prices will go up anytime soon.

"its kind of just a balancing act.

But there hasn't been consistent spike in prices."

Spangler says like every store nationwide they're having a rough time purchasing flour, yeast and toilet paper spangler says they always try to buy local
