East Hamilton takes over tornado relief efforts for the community around them in this week's edition of What's Right With Our Schools.

To east hamilton high school are right next to one of the hardest hit areas from last week's tornadoes.

Now, a new tornado relief center is now open at the school.

It's for students and their families who may need help after what happened.

News 12's david moore has another example of what's right with our schools.

Natural sound: donna: so msi is just a company that believes in community.

We work with the mayors a lot.

So we decided the csla site that the hamilton county department of education was hosting was doing a phenomenal job.

But we knew it ended on friday.

So we kind of like a baton thing, we knew we needed to pick up the baton.

So we rallied about 8 to 10 businesses.

We rallied them together and said, "ok so now let's make this happen."

Natural sound: blessings!

Blessings!

You too.

Donna: at the same time we were doing that mr. eller the principal at east hamilton and his assistant principal mr. kietha booker we're talking amongst themselves.

And they were starting an initiative.

So the short version, we all came together, merged our efforts and that's why you see it happening.

Natural sound: kietha: we have a lot of students whose families were impacted by this great tragedy.

And we want to make sure that we give back.

And make sure that we do our due diligence and make sure that we set up something here on site for our families to come out and get the support that they need.

And natural sound: thank you guys kietha: we have several kids like i said whose families were impacted.

And lost everything.

And our heart goes out to them we are in prayer with them every single day.

But this site is directly for them.

For them to come out like i see it and get the support that they need.

Natural sound: there you go.

Donna: we are doing exactly what the hamilton county schools date.

We are mimicking the model that jill levine, tucker and dr. johnson all implemented.

So what you can expect monday through friday 10 to 3; you can pick up or donate all day.

There are no separate times we started that in the beginning; drop off all day pick up all day.

Donna: if you can see, billy graham's response team showed up.

Blessings just come so basically they are here to talk.

If you have some mental health challenges right now.

We are all sensing the down, the depressed, whatever, that's what they are here for all week.

A natural sound: we are going to bring out your supplies.

Kietha: the kids are at home if you're watching this no you are in our thoughts and prayers.

As of right now as you know we have our kids on lockdown right now in regards to the virtual learning for this week.

Just because we did have so many people that were impacted who lost power and don't have access to the internet our chrome books.

But we will definitely pick back up in the near future possibly next week.

We are running this site for the rest of this week and next week we will be able to pick up in that format and make sure that we get our kids back on their academic progress.
