According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Oregon ranks 13th in the nation for unemployment with a rate of 3.3.

The startling unemployment rates....some data has stuck out more than others.

Most notably.....that in oregon - people in their 20s and early thirties have been hit harder by layoffs and furloughs.

As kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome shows us - we are seeing those effects right here in lane county.

"it hasn't been impossible, there's still jobs available for washing carts at stores and stuff" the job hunt looks different nowadays, for people out of work - trying to make ends meet "i was on a waiting list for a job application interview and once that happened i was supposed to get the job, but coronavirus started happening and i couldn't get the job because of it" emma jerome: " unemployment has skyrocketed in the last month which begs the question for college aged kids not only where can they work now, but what's the job market going to look like when they graduate?

According to the state unemployment department those aged 25-34 have been hit hardest by unemployment accounting for roughly 30 percent of all unemployment claimants, while only making up 23 percent of the workforce.

Others like conor wynne perry have lost their jobs and has other work postponed due to the virus conor wp: " i'm a fly fishing guide and i was going to go up to montana for the time being but that offer got put on hold for just a little bit over a month -- we'll see how long it actually goes on for" the unemployment department says this trend in people in their 20s could be the group accounts for a larger percentage of jobs who were hit the hardest or that this group represents workers earlier in their career and they were more susceptible to layoffs.
