Midmorning With Aundrea - April 16, 2020 (Part 2)

(Part 2 of 2) The stay-at-home order has led some people to discover creative talents they didn't know they had.

And we see how CBS's Steve Hartman is teaching his children from home.

There are people now finding all new skills as they fill their time at home.

This includes one man who is building custom picnic tables.

Just look.

He's not a carpenter by trade... 18:34:41 but the stay-at- home order has inspired juan najera -- who is in the refrigeration business -- to chip-up new hobby... 18:39:24 "i've handed out 7 of them.

I have 43 on a waiting list as of this morning."

Using scrap wood from home projects, he's making picnic tables..

But these are not your average tables, no these are juan of a kind.

18:39:49 "you set it outside you can put a little treat.

Squirrels come up, birds come up."

That's right, these miniature wooden structures are... for the squirrels... 18:39:16 "i put it on th next-door neighbor app, and from there people were going nuts for it."

Pun intended.

It's a project he never thought wood take off the way it has... but juan's creation is all the buzz-saw.

8:41:05 "i have tw favorites: one it there is a squirrel and there is a turkey right next to it, and another came in where they painted it, and they did a checker design on top of it."

So, while we're all being told to branch off into smaller groups... juan is helping his neighbors -- and their backyard visitors -- feel chipper.

18:39:34 "hopefully i lightens up somebody's day and brings some joy through these difficult times that we're going through right now."

Staying at home has changed the way most people are celebrating birthdays.

But one aberdeen community found a way to wish bella kitchens all the best.

The now ten year old watched from the backseat of a classic car as neighbors, church friends and even monroe county deputies road by, waved and honked.

Bella is the granddaughter of robin bounds, the owner of robin's unique boutique.

Donald o'brian of maben.... turned 76 years old today and several people took to the streets to help him celebrate his big day.

Due to the social distancing guidelines..

Family members decided give him on a birthday parade... dozens of vehicles passed by o'brien's home honking their horns..

And showing off bright a colorful "happ birthday" signs an balloons ..

The parade came as a complete surprise for the maben man... o'brien says being showered with lots of love from those close to him is the best part of his birthday..

Intro for all of you teaching at home, that's how the school year will wrap up - with you teaching at home.

Steve hartman's been busy this week.

He is also teaching, from home.

Pkg nat it wasn't exactly the most polished production.

This week, with the help of my god-given teaching assistants, i taught an online class in kindness - from my office.

Nat "let's look a our syllabus."

But despite the low budget - we had high turnout.

Tens of thousands of kids from across the country tuned in.

Std-up / one thing we talked about was heroism - and how heroes today are wearing all different kinds of uniforms. their assignment for the week was to pick one of these new heroes - and thank them - in any way they could.

Nat some kids went straight to the phone to thank the pharmacists and the fire chiefs and the nurses tending to grandparents in memory care.

Nat others used sidewalk chalk to thank their mail carriers, fedex and ups drivers.

While other kids - of all ages, i might add - broke out markers and crayons to write thank you notes to the people they now look up to most.

Bite tyler "i wa thinking, well, who should i give it to?

- because there are so many heroes that are here today.

And i decided on the truck driver."

9-year-old tyler carr taped his note to a loading dock at a kroger in arlington, texas.

It read, in part, " appreciate that you are still going out and driving your truck because all of us are sitting on our butts watching tv and eating cheetos."

Bailey kilman of cooper city, florida chose to thank her sanitation worker.

She wrote, "yo help so many people so their garbage doesn't pile up and smell bad."

Then, usin good social distancing, she handed her note to remy felizor.

Bite remy "oh, man she made my day.

I was emotional."

Remy says he's not used to people thanking him for his service.

Bite remy "i can' even think about that moment.

Steve: really?

Remy: yes, sir."

It was all a-plus work.

Which is why ámyá thank you goes to all the students who graduated kindness 101.

Bite tyler "steve because, you know, there are better things on tv.

You're being kind by not saying anything.

You learned your lesson .

Tyler: yes, i guess i did."
