Zach Edey follows unique path to Purdue

Edey is an incoming freshman for the Boilermakers.

Edey redshirts or plays this upcoming season ..

He won't be hard to miss.

The 7'3 canadian big man chose the boilers over baylor and santa clara ..

Originally a 20-21 prospect ..

Edey reclassifed for this year ..

But that's just one small bullet point in this script.

Zach edey: damn.

Your life is like a movie.

They're going to make a movie about you someday.

Andrew: zach edey's path to purdue coming to a theater near you ..

Zach edey: i was 6'10 playing rec league for my first time.

Andrew: edey's first time playing basketball was less than two years ago.

Zach edey: life changes fast.

Andrew: now the 7'3 edey is set to join matt painter and the boilermakers.

But about that path ..

Zach edey: i resisted basketball originally.

I never really wanted to play when i was younger.

It was just because i felt like just because i was big everyone wanted me to play basketball so therefore i didn't want to play basketball.

Andrew: instead, the toronto native grew up playing other sports.

Zach edey: hockey is the first calling for any canadian so i played hockey then i played baseball originally because my mom and dad played baseball.

Andrew: but edey's mom and dad only wanted their son to compete in one sport going into high school.

While edey dropped hockey, he picked up a lot of extra time.

Zach edey: there was just like this big, long winter that i had nothing to do so my parents were kind of regretting their decision to make me drop a sport.

Andrew: so the big man decided to try basketball.

Zach edey: i loved it.

It was so fun.

I had a blast.

I wanted to go back immediately.

Andrew: in two years, edey immediately attracted the attention of others.

He went from participating in rec leagues to attending i- m-g academy in florida.

Nat pop edey gave up baseball and committed himself solely to basketball and not long after purdue.

Zach edey: it clicked.

It felt like i had known them for longer than i did when i went and visited.

Andrew: edey only needed one visit to know purdue was the right school for him.

Zach edey: all my other visits i usually went our for bowling at the end and the other visits only one or two people came from the team but with purdue everyone came.

Like there was a single player missing so i knew right then there was a really good team atmosphere.

Andrew: from the 6 to the 765 ..

Edey has reached the end of the path to purdue.

But the camera is still rolling.

Zach edey: it's just a movie.

I'm just along for the ride.
