Four killed including shooter at Pensacola military base

Three people were killed by a shooter on Friday at Naval Air Station Pensacola, a major U.S. Navy base in Florida, before sheriff's deputies fatally shot the shooter, authorities said, the second deadly shooting at a U.S. military installation this week.

Three people were killed by a shooter on Friday at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, making it the second deadly shooting this week at a U.S. military base.

Authorities said the shooter was shot dead by a sheriff's deputy in a classroom on the base.

Captain Timothy Kinsella said they received the call about the shooting Friday morning: (SOUNDBITE) CAPTAIN TIMOTHY KINSELLA, NAVAL AIR STATION PENSACOLA, SAYING: "This morning we had an active shooter situation at 6:30 am.

The base is currently shut down, the active shooter has been neutralized.

We are working with local officers and the FBI.../my heart goes out to those families of the deceased and the wounded, they are part of the navy family, they are part of us.

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said the scene was horrific: (SOUNDBITE) ESCAMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF DAVID MORGAN SAYING: "I will tell you that this strikes home as a retired military member, walking through the crime scene was like walking through a movie and as the mayor eloquently put it, this doesn't happen at home.

Officials also said two sheriff's deputies were injured, but both were expected to survive..

Eight people were being treated at a nearby hospital.

U.S. President Donald Trump had been briefed and was monitoring the situation at the Pensacola base that employs more than 16,000 military and over 7,000 civilian personnel.

On Wednesday, a sailor shot three civilians at the Pearl Harbor military base in Hawaii, killing two of them before taking his own life.

The shooting took place three days before the 78th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941.

The sailor's motive for the shooting has not yet been determined.
