Trump signs his border wall

Trump on Wednesday visited a wall on the border with Mexico in California and said on there was still a national emergency with regard to border security.

Trump said U.S. troops could be taken away from the border as the wall was built, and that if Mexico stopped helping stem the flow of immigrants, imposing tariffs on Mexican imports would be considered.

Trump was in Otay Mesa, a community in San Diego, to view the construction of a 30-foot-high (9-meter-high) steel and concrete barrier that is replacing existing border fencing.

Trump told reporters he expected that nearly 500 miles (800 km) of new barrier would be completed by the end of next year.
