Week ahead on Wall Street

Investors hope the markets will turn around after the Dow's longest weekly losing streak in eight years.

As Fred Katayama reports, they'll have earnings reports to consider from retailers Costco, Dollar General and Gap.

Week ahead on Wall Street

Here's what to look for in the holiday-shortened Week Ahead on Wall Street: The markets will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday Monday, giving investors a break from the Dow's longest weekly losing streak in eight years.

Fearful that a prolonged trade war will crimp global economic growth, Wall Street is eager for any signs that the U.S. and China would resume trade talks.

Investors will also get more reports from retailers following a week of mixed results.

On Thursday, discount warehouse club operator Costco Wholesale is expected to post rising sales and profits.

Wall Street will keep its eye on membership and traffic trends.

Also that day: discounter Dollar General will likely report rising same-store sales.

But higher transportation costs and investments in its stores may weigh on its profit margins.

Also, look for same-store sales to fall at Gap.

Investors will also be watching for updates on the company's plan to close underperforming stores.
