These are dozens of concerned relatives of inmates, gathered outside a prison in Tajikistan.

29 prisoners and three prison guards were killed near here in a prison riot on Sunday (May 20), which the government has blamed on Islamic State.

These women are waiting to find out if their loved ones are among the dead.

Tajikistan's Justice Ministry said militants armed with knives killed three guards and five fellow prisoners, before torching the prison hospital, taking several inmates hostage and trying to fight their way out.

Security forces reportedly killed 24 militants in the battle to restore order.

The prison lies 10km east of the capital and houses 1,500 inmates, some of whom rights activists describe as political prisoners.
