Ukraine's President Delivers Concession Speech After Comedian Wins Election

Outgoing Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko delivered a concession speech on the evening of Sunday, April 22, after a national exit poll gave the victory to his rival Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Reuters, with over 90 percent of the vote counted, Zelenskiy had won 73 percent of the vote with Poroshenko winning just under 25 percent.

In his concession speech, Poroshenko said that he was leaving the president’s office but not leaving politics.

He said that Ukrainians were unique among the peoples of the former Soviet Union, as they were the only ones with real power to transfer power.
