The world's media has been gearing up to get the perfect shot of Meghan and Harry and their new royal baby on the hospital steps.

But don't hold the front pages - the couple have announced they will be keeping their baby plans private.

A statement from Buckingham Palace on Thursday said their Royal Highnesses had taken a "personal decision" not to make the news public.

And that they look forward to sharing the news with everyone, once they have had an opportunity to "celebrate privately as a new family".

The first images of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, all born at the Lindo wing of London's St Mary's Hospital, graced papers and news bulletins across the globe.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting the birth of their first child in the coming weeks.

And the little one will be the seventh in line to the British throne.

The Queen's grandson married the American actress in May.

The statement also said the couple are "very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby."
