Trump's Border Threat Causes Avocado Prices to Rise To address illegal immigration, the U.S. president is threatening to shut down the border along Mexico.

This in turn has caused suppliers to stockpile produce imported from Mexico and raise prices.

Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, via CBS In only seven days, costs for avocados have jumped 44%.

Almost 2 billion pounds of avocados were imported in 2018.

Besides Mexico, California is also a big supplier of avocados.

But for 2019, the state says there will be a shortage.
