Sixth Islamic Center Vandalized in Birmingham After Arrest Made in Previous Attacks

The windows of an Islamic center in Birmingham, England, were smashed overnight from Friday, March 22 to Saturday, March 23, hours after police arrested a man on suspicion of similar attacks on five mosques in the city on Thursday.

Police said they did not believe the new attack, this time in Balsall Heath, was linked to the previous five attacks.

Police described the building as a mosque.

However, The Birmingham Mail reported that the building was an Islamic teaching center for children.

Perry Barr, a 34-year-old man from Yardley, handed himself into a Birmingham police station on Friday afternoon, claimed responsibility for Thursdayโ€™s attacks, and was detained under the Mental Health Act, police said.

Police said they were โ€œnot seeking anyone else in relation to these five incidentsโ€ and โ€œdid not believe that he was part of an organised group.โ€ An anti-Islamophobia march was due to take place in Birmingham city center later on March 23, in response to the mosque attacks.
