News Corp calls for Google break up

Break up Google.

That's what the Australian arm of News Corp is calling for.

Rupert Murdoch's company says the internet search engine company has 'unparalled power' over news outlets and advertisers.

News Corp Australia made its demands as part of a government inquiry and contends Google directs traffic and sales to its own sites and hurts competition.

As a remedy - News Corp says Google's parent company, Alphabet, should sell its main internet search business.

Google was not immediately available for comment.

Just last week over in the U.S., Senator Elizabeth Warren vowed to dismantle Google as well as Amazon and Facebook if she were elected president.

SOUNDBITE: SENATOR ELIZABETH WARREN, DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Break those things apart, and we will have a much more competitive, robust market in America." She wants to unwind Google's acquisitions of Waze, Nest and DoubleClick.
