**EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES** A funeral was held on Saturday (March 9) for a Palestinian man shot dead on Friday (March 8) during weekly protests held at the fortified Gaza Strip border.

Wrapped in a flag representing the Palestinian Liberation Movement, or Fatah, the body of 23-year-old Tamer Arafat was carried through the streets of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Cross-border violence has increased in recent days and Israeli forces wounded 42 others taking part in the protest on Friday.

The Israeli military said over 8,000 Palestinians took part in the demonstration, throwing rocks and explosives towards soldiers, and that some tried to breach the fence into Israel.

Israel's military said on Friday night it had carried out an air strike on a compound belonging to Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza, after rockets were launched from the coastal enclave toward Israel.
