According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, utility owner PG&E Corp filed for bankruptcy protection in anticipation of liabilities from California wildfires, including a catastrophic blaze that claimed the lives of 86 people in 2018.

The company has reportedly vowed to keep the lights on as it grapples with fire-related costs estimated at over 30 billion dollars.
