In Yemen's Sanaa on Sunday (January 20), residents cleared rubble in the aftermath of a Saudi-led coalition bombardment, part of an escalation in fighting that augurs badly for a second round of U.N.

Sponsored peace talks later this month.

The airstrikes follow a deadly Houthi drone attack on a Yemeni government military parade last week.

The Iran-aligned Houthi movement controls the the capital Sanaa where a Saudi-led coalition spokesman said its warplanes had targeted seven military facilities used for drone operations.

But medical workers and residents told Reuters that two civilians had been killed, and that the raids had damaged homes.

Yemen's nearly-four year old civil war pits the Houthis against the coalition-backed, internationally recognized government.

Thousands have been killed and millions brought to the brink of starvation in what is widely seen as a proxy conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The United Nations is currently trying to implement a ceasefire and troop withdrawal agreement in the port city of Hodeidah - the main entry point for Yemen's imports and aid.

The truce has largely held in Hodeidah but the withdrawal of forces by both sides has stalled in a disagreement over who should control the city.
