London Fashion Week opens for the Spring/Summer 2019 seasons with shows from Richard Malone and J.JS Lee.

For the first time, London Fashion Week also goes fur-free.

Once fashionable, but fashionable no more.

With London Fashion Week going fur free for the first time.

Burberry last week said it would no longer use fur, following other luxury labels including Versace and Gucci.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHIEF EXECUTIVE, BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL, CAROLINE RUSH, SAYING: "I think it just reflects a change in their creative choices in the power of the consumer and really thinking about the images that they are putting out through fashion weeks." London Fashion Week opens today for the spring/summer 2019 catwalk season.

According to estimates, the women's clothing market grew by 3.2 percent, to 28.4 billion pounds last year in the UK, Sales are forecast to increase to 33.5 billion pounds in 2022.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHIEF EXECUTIVE, BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL, CAROLINE RUSH, SAYING: Five days showcasing, celebrating incredible creative and innovative fashion talent from the emerging talent that we've got around us and behind us." Richard Malone was one of the first designers to show, with models donning sharply colourful flowing dresses and edgy shirts.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FASHION DESIGNER, RICHARD MALONE, SAYING: ''Bossy and fun I think like really fun and really elevated simple is what I really wanted just to look at things I grew up with ... like fun for a women to wear, and also quite powerful for a women to wear." Other highly anticipated shows are slated for the next few days, including Victoria Beckham, who is showing in London for the first time, and the first collection by Burberry's new chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci.
