British Airways website suffers data breach

Financial and personal data has been stolen from potentially hundreds of thousands of British Airways customers who booked online in recent weeks, extending a run of embarrassing technological mishaps suffered by the UK flag carrier.

British Airways website suffers data breach

In what's been called a very sophisticated attack, financial and personal data has been stolen from potentially hundreds of thousands of British Airways customers.

It affects those who booked online in recent weeks.

Airline chairman Alex Cruz says criminals got in despite the data being encrypted.

The thefts affected around 380,000 card payments, with personal details "compromised." They contacted affected customers as soon as it found out, promising that anyone who loses out financially will be compensated.

An investigation is now under way.

BA laying out a full page, 'I'm sorry' in British newspapers Friday (September 7).

But it's yet another blown to the UK's flag carrier, which has been hit by a run of embarrassing tech mishaps.
