UK regulator demands tech firms shield children from harmful content

Social media platforms may face fines of up to $22.5 million if they do not act to prevent their algorithms from guiding children to harmful content, according to the UK communications regulator Ofcom on Wednesday. A new law in Britain regarding online safety has introduced additional legal obligations for platforms to safeguard children. Ofcom has released a preliminary code of conduct outlining the requirements they must fulfill.
