Russia's police detained thousands of migrants in New Year's Eve raids, with scores now facing deportation. In St. Petersburg, about 3,000 migrants were detained during checks to prevent crime, revealing over 600 migrants with migration law violations. In Moscow, a man from Tajikistan dressed as Santa Claus was among the detained migrants. In Chelyabinsk, three migrants are under investigation for an act of hooliganism against Russian servicemen and their wives. The Investigative Committee also opened investigations into migrants' illegal actions in the Sverdlovsk and Moscow regions.
