British home secretary James Cleverly faced backlash for joking about date rape while announcing plans to crack down on the offence. Cleverly reportedly made the joke during a drinks reception at 10 Downing Street, suggesting drugging his wife. The Fawcett Society, a women's rights charity, called the remarks "sickening" and demanded Cleverly's resignation. Cleverly said "a little bit of Rohypnol" - the so-called date rape drug - "in her drink every night" was "not really illegal if it''s only a little bit".
