Inslee brings maggot-infested apples to wildfire zone, breaking state law

What was meant to be a nice gesture to families who have lost their homes due to wildfires in eastern and central Washington has turned into a fiasco to track down missing maggot-infested apples that could infect others. While visiting Bridgeport to survey the damage from the Pearl Hill Fire on Sept. 12, Gov. Jay Inslee brought homegrown apples to families in Malden and Omak. It was later discovered that the apples were infested with apple maggot larvae. The apples, of the honey crisp variety, were picked by Inslee's wife Trudi at the governor's mansion in Olympia, which is under an apple maggot quarantine.
