Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best announces retirement, effective September

Almost two years after her appointment, Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best announced Monday night she will step down from the department's top position.

The surprise announcement came with the backdrop of the City Council that afternoon cutting parts of the Seattle Police Department's budget, including Best's salary, and the months-long protests against racism and police brutality.
