Trump Cancels Republican Convention in Florida President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of the Jacksonville convention on Thursday. Donald Trump, via 'The New York Times' Trump was responsible for moving the convention from North Carolina to Florida after North Carolina officials demanded health precautions be implemented. Florida has the third-most cases of coronavirus in the U.S., with nearly 390,000 as of Friday morning. North Carolina reported 109,000 cases as of Friday morning. The convention is now moving back to North Carolina. The exact details have not been released, but Trump hinted that it would be a virtual event. Trump's reversal of course follows months of minimizing the pandemic. Other reversals this week by Trump included suggesting that people wear a mask in public.
