COVID-19 lockdown: Mosques remain closed on Eid in J-K for devotees
Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on May 24 amid coronavirus pandemic. Mosques remain closed for devotees on this occasion in Jammu due to COVID-19 lockdown. Celebration of Eid will be different this year as large gatherings are prohibited and people have been asked to maintain social distancing. Mosques in Srinagar also remain closed for devotees on Eid-ul-Fitr amid lockdown 4.0. Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as festival of breaking the fast which is observed during the holy month of Ramadan. While speaking to ANI, a local of Jammu, Mohd Naseer said, "People are offering prayers at their homes. Markets are also witnessing low footfall. Festive fervour is missing this time." There are 1569 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases are 73,560 and 3867 deaths in India.
