Highway deaths in Maharashtra up 14% to 1/hr: NCRB; activists seek action

The latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data reveals that Maharashtra had the third-most fatalities on national and state highways in 2022, with a significant rise in deaths compared to the previous year. The state witnessed a 21% increase in fatalities on national highways, resulting in 4,833 deaths from 8,339 crashes. Additionally, state highways recorded an 8% jump in casualties, with 4,098 deaths from 7,490 crashes. Maharashtra also experienced 87 deaths on expressways. In total, the state saw 30,546 crashes and 15,748 deaths on its roads.
