Vasundhara Raje's return to prominence in Rajasthan politics at 70 marks her as an outlier in a pantheon of BJP veterans. She retained the Jhalrapatan seat by a margin of 53,000 votes and now has the leverage she needs as the race for the CM's post begins. Raje's reduced influence during the Narendra Modi era coincided with the loss of her bargaining chips. Despite this, she had managed to outmanoeuvre her adversaries and had electoral successes since 1985, including two terms as CM.
