Technical problem forces air turnback of AI Mumbai-NYK flight

An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York had an air turn back on Tuesday after the Boeing 777 aircraft developed a technical problem over two hours into the flight. An air turnback involves an unplanned return to the airport the flight departed from. It is a reportable incident. Flight AI-1119 departed Mumbai around 2.20 am and about two and a half hours later was over the Iran airspace when the pilots of the 14-year old Boeing 777 aircraft (VT-AEI) decided to divert to Mumbai.
