Omar Abdullah criticises construction of motorable road up to Amarnath shrine, says playing with environment not good

Omar Abdullah, a leader of the National Conference, has criticized the construction of a motorable road to the Amarnath cave shrine in Srinagar. He argues that it is detrimental to the environment and equivalent to its destruction. Abdullah believes that vehicles should not be allowed near such sacred places and that pilgrims should continue to rely on local people to carry them. He mentions that other religious pilgrimages, such as Haj and Mata Vaishno Devi, are done on foot and without vehicles. The Border Roads Organisation recently completed the widening of the road to the Amarnath cave.
