New CIC Samariya is first Dalit to hold post

The Central Information Commission (CIC) in India has finally appointed a new chief and two new information commissioners after being headless for over a month. Heeralal Samariya, a retired IAS officer and former information commissioner, has been sworn in as the new chief. Anandi Ramalingam and Vinod Kumar Tiwari have also been sworn in as information commissioners. However, the CIC is still not at full strength as per the provisions of the Right to Information Act.
